Title of Article: Hometown Heroes: Saving a Neighbor's Life

  1. Write about an event, issue, or idea in the reading that strikes you as important, interesting, or surprising. Tell why it is so.
         
     Well this is the story of a man who unfortunately burned his house but the man was inside the house, a neighbor who lived very near there that helped out of the house as it would burn to death. What surprised me was that the neighbor came to see that it is firefighters went into the house to save his neighbor. They eventually became very good friends helped each other to rebuild the house of both.

  1. Pick out 5 lexical items (verbs, phrasal verbs, expressions, fillers, etc.) and write down examples of at least 2 different meanings of the lexical item.

Stagger / / v. to walk or move in an unsteady way, almost falling over:I got out of bed and staggered to the window.
Staggering / / adj. very surprising, shocking, and hard to believe:A staggering $ 3 million was spent in building the US nuclear arsenal.


  1. .beeping.- [beepverb. (used with object) to sound (a horn, warning signal, etc.)
                 impatient drivers beeping their horns.


   2. doorway.-[dawr-wey, dohr-] n. the passage or opening into a building, room, etc., commonly closed and opened by a door; portal.
                Required a lot of thought to get this silhouette of the ancient building in the doorway of an ancient building.

  
  3. fuse .- [fyooz] verb. (used with object) to unite or blend into a whole, as if by melting together.
                The author skillfully fuses these fragments into a cohesive whole.


 
  4. balcony .-  [bal-kuh-nee] a balustraded or railed elevated platform projecting from the wall of a building. 
                      Upstairs, in the newly renovated balcony, guests drooped against the rails and fanned themselves.


   5.chokes up .-[chohkverb. to become or cause to become speechless, as from the effect of emotion or stress.
                        She choked up over the sadness of the tale.
