Nelson Mandela was born in Qunu, South Africa, July 18, 1918. His first language was Xhosa; his parents were Gadla and Nodekeni and he had 3 sisters.  His favorite time of day is the sunset and he enjoyed listening Classical music.

Mandela started to work at the age of 5 years old herding family's cattle. He studied the primary school in Mission School, the high school in Union College of Fort Hare and studied law in Johannesburg. Mandela was married three times; first he got married with Evelyn Ntoko (1944), some years later he got married with Winnie Madikizela (1958) and his last marriage was with Graca Machel (1998). He joined to African National Congress (ANC) in 1942. His first position was like Youth League Secretary in 1947, in 1952 was Deputy Head of ANC and in 1991 was the president of ANC. One of his goals in ANC was end the unjust system of apartheid in South Africaand he achieved and the ANC outlawed in 1960.

Mandela was sentenced to live term for anti-government activities; and he was released after 27 years, in February 11, 1990. After his retirement, he raised money for childre's charities and he got the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. In 1994, he wrote his autobiography called Long Walk to Freedom. He was the first democratically elected president of South Africa (1994-1999) with 62% of vote.
