SHOULD SOCIAL REDS BE BANNED AT WORK?

Every day we use internet and take advantage of that; for example, we use internet for meeting people, working, enjoying, etc. Mainly we use it to meet people, and most of the time we use social reds like Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, etc. It is incredible how these social reds have become part of our lives like at work. However, there is a controversial issue about the use of social reds at work, some disagree the idea because it affects the growth industry. Despite this, I think social reds should not be banned at work.

Years ago, companies and employees were discussing the idea of social reds at work causing more controversy than solutions. Some companies rejected the idea of social reds because it could affect its growth like wasting time playing games or meeting people; for example, the peruvian newspaper El Comercio mentioned what Google caused. Silicon News reported Google's initiative, which was intended to recreate the most famous game in the 80's; however it became into a nightmare. According to RescueTime, a firm specializing in software for management and performance monitoring, estimates that workers would have lost 4.82 million hours playing PacMan version of Google which in terms of money means $ 120 million in lost working hours, and it was estimated a cost of $ 25 an hour dedicated to the game (1).However, many employees felt relaxed and worked more hours which repaired the money and hours lost. It is like many people mention "your employees are your team" According to according to Shel Holtz, Principal of Holtz Communication + Technology, mentions that  blocking employee access to social media is unnecessary, short-sighted and counterproductive. Yet, according to one study, some 54% of U.S. companies restrict employees from visiting sites like Facebook and Twitter (2). So, how does playing Farmville on company time affect the business? At a minimum it's a waste of resources while at the worst it exposes the company to unnecessary risk.

Some companies have worn employees that if they continue using social reds, they would disappear any media which allow the use of social reds. However, it is impossible to disappear media; for example, companies have to use computers and to look for any research which would be needed. According to a survey of Reed; a UK website, mentions that the 67% do not use social reds at work and, the 33% do (3). It means even companies try they can not disappear social reds.

In conclusion, it is not necessary to make a big controversial about the use of social reds at work, so a good way to solve this problem is to use them for work-related activities. Also could limit the use of social reds at work in specific times; for example, employees could use them at lunch.
