CAUSE AND EFFECT OF RAPE

Around the world, there are a lot of victims of rape. According to American Medical Association, 91 percent of these victims are female ( specially young girls), and 9 percent are male. In 2005, there were more than 191.270 cases of rape in the United State; South Africa has more of the highest incidents of children and young woman rape, and the number of victims is increasing every year. For this reason, it is very important to know the causes and the effects that these victims present to find the best solution for them. Finding the real causes, people will know the main effects of rape.

There a principal cause why people commit rapes. Many recent researches show that men have since they want to sex to improve their masculinity, and when women say no to sex, men do not stand it; that is why they commit rapes because of pornography, flashing, obscene phone calls, and so on. For example, many people say, “if someone stands really close to you or sit next to you, be aware because that person can touch you in a bad way” .Some people hold beliefs justifying rape more strongly than others. Men who rape tend to believe more strongly in myths about rape, and they are more likely to engage in fantasies about coercive sex (Drieschner and Lange 1999).

However, the effects that many victims of rape present are devastating because of the terrible way the rape was committed, so what people have to do is to help these victims as much as people can since these victims can not do it alone, so be careful with the effects.

First of all, victims present psychological effects; for instance, self- blame that make people feel uncomfortable with themselves; they want to stay alone ( specially dark places) because everything bothers them, the music, the light, the people, and so on, as a consequence of rape. According to Doctor Jarol Scoth, victims that present this kind of psychological effect try to find the way to kill themselves as a result of these memories since it starts like dreams, and little by little they cannot forget, so many victims appear died. All those cases require professional help because they do not know how to control their emotions, so people have to help them.

Another important effect that all victims present is physical effect; for everybody it is so crucial to know that if victims of rape do not pay the necessary attention to their bodies, they will have lots of problems. For instance, victims can have a vaginal or anal bleeding, genital irritation, urinary infections, etc. If they present these symptoms they must go immediately to see a doctor since it can hurt themselves in a terrible way. Doctor Alexander Royal (AMA) said, “ This is for people who have been victims of rape, do not wait until the last minute to go to the hospital because you are in risk to get terrible diseases…”.

To sum up, to be a victim of rape is not easy to manage, the only thing that a victim can do is to ask for help, and they have to remember that alone they will not solve that problem because there are a lot of people that can help them manage the problem.
