MINING EFFECTS
Mining is the extraction of valuable minerals from the earth. Materials recovered by mining include base metal precious metal, diamonds, rock salt or others. Mining processes involve prospecting for ore bodies, analysis of the profit potencial of a proposed mine, extraction of the desired materials and finally reclamation of the land to preparate it for other uses once the mine is closed, but mining processes has potencial negative impact on the environment during the mining operations and for years after the mine is closed.
Environmental issues can include erosion, loss of biodiversity and contamination of ground water and surface water by chemicals from mining processes. Contamination resulting from leakage of chemicals can also affect the health of the local population if not property controlled. For example, it happened in "La Oroya".
The mining industry generates large amounts of waste. For example, 99 tons of waste are generate per ton of copper, with even higher ratios in gold mining. This waste are toxic for the land and produce a lot of contamination in our environment.
Mining mean that you have to cut down a lot of trees just to get to the spot that has all the gold or iron ore, it is happening in Cajamarca where 7 lagoond will dessappear.
Mining involves the inadvertent disperval of heavy metals, such us lead, into the atmosphere., it can have serious health affects, including mental retardation in children how Republica newspaper told in their title page 8 months ago.
In fact, the environmental impact of each proposed mine should be analyzed before permission to proceed is granted or exploration and mining operations must be aware of the potencial impacts of their operations and ensure mining risk to the environment .
