Advantages and Disadvantages of Soccer
There are many sports which are popular and practiced all over the world, but studies reveal that the most popular sport is soccer. Soccer is challenging footy as the sport in which a lot of persons are interested, in accordance with the 16th Annual Sweeny Sports Report. In many parts of the world, soccer evokes great and plays a vital role around life of individual fans, local communities and even nations. It is for that reason that soccer is the most popular sport so we can notice the great amount of advantages it has; however it also has some disadvantages.
One benefit soccer has is that it can help people mentally. That is that this sport helps to increase ability in concentration, persistence and self-discipline. Moreover, it can give an opportunity to increase people’s confidence and self-esteem, also an opportunity to assist to decrease anxiety.
Aside from being a very fun and exciting sport, soccer can also help people not only mentally, but also it can help people t stay in shape.
Soccer goes up aerobic capacity and cardiovascular health because running will strengthen overall cardiovascular system. Improve blood circulation is another benefit of playing soccer. Also a soccer player exercises; hence, his body loses fats and improves muscle tone. All activities required by soccer game will make the body more flexible as the person chase his opponent and try to steal the ball, he needs to exert extra effort and make his body more flexible to do moves that will make him win the game. Besides, he will use more of his arms and legs in this sport; as a result, he needs stretching exercises as well as exercises that will strengthen his muscles. For example, if you notice, nowadays soccer players are very muscular and if they are very thin they ingest pills to gain weight. That is because the soccer field is very competitive and they have to be enough strong to success.
“A soccer game is won or lost in a typical effort.” This simple fact, in addition to the strong desire of winning leads the socialization of the individual.
Usually people who play in a soccer team are socially well-integrated, have friends, have fewer issues with parents, etc. Trough this sport, they have gained skills to solve problems; they experience social acceptance, recognition and support. Moreover, they learn the value of working together to reach a common goal. As we know there are 11 players in a soccer team, so all of them must work hard to overcome problems.
An entire country can get unified because of soccer. It is a passion that most people feel so for example when our team, Peru, plays, all Peruvians forget all their fight and problems with the others and all become friends and brothers. They share their joys and sadness each other. So it is incredible what soccer can do with millions of people.
Soccer is a great sport and its benefits are many, although this fact, it has some disadvantages because some people do not appreciate the value of it.
Even though this sport helps to learn to work in a team, a person can become very selfish if he just want to shine alone and not contribute with the team; consequently, there are going to be conflicts with the other players. Another problem is that there are fans who convert soccer in a great fight; thereby, they kill each other. A clear example is the case of Walter Oyarce who was killed by Universitario fans in Monumental Stadium. Also there are people who are involved in mafias to become ritcher. You can read a book from Phillip Butters, called Muerte Subita,that clearly shows the illegal things club owners and powerful men did. It also shows the uncontrolled life that soccer players had.
To conclude, now we know that soccer has advantages and some disadvantages, but we have to take the best thing from this sport that is really beautiful and makes us feel a lot of joys.
