PROJECT PRESENTATION: GUIDE DOGS OR CANES

Dogs are the best friends of people. They are loyal, they are friendly, and they are funny. Also, they are really helpful; dogs can find people with their extraordinary sense of smelling; that is why, police officer and fireman use dogs to save lives. However, they are not just good in saving people`s life, they are also good in helping people that have some physical problem, and the best example of it are the guide dogs. Guide dogs help blind people that want to move from some place to another one. Guide dogs are like the eyes of blind people; consequently, they are also called seeing-eye dogs. However, a Guide dog couldn’t be always the best option for a blind person they can also use a cane.
We should realize that a cane could be leaved in some corner of the house, it doesn’t need any special space or a bed or food every day, it doesn’t need to take a shower or go to the veterinary because a cane is not alive; on the contrary, a guide dog needs a lot of space, it needs to be taken out to toiled day and night, it needs a lot of food and specially it need a lot of love.
Guide dogs are able to take some decision on their own. For example, they can be tough to find trash cans or a bus stop. Also, they can learn some specific routes, and this makes easier to move on the streets; in contrast, with a cane you are not able to do all these things; you have to ask someone where the bus stop is or where the park is. Also, if you want to go home you have to do it by yourselves.
Guide dogs don’t work forever. They have a time of work; this time could be from 5 to 10 years, and when it is time to stop working some people suffer because the relationship of a dog with his owner is really strong. It is a relationship that someone will never experiment with a withe cane.
When you are on the street with a cane, you have to be careful of every single thing you touch with it, and you have to take some time going around of that thing. With a guide dog it is a totally different history. A guide dog can easily go around it.
In conclusion, a guide dog is helpful in many ways. However, it is not always the best option for a blind person. He has to thing a little bit of the pros and cons of having a guide dog instead of a withe cane like the food or the space.
