DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BRAINS
Pamela and Benjamin, a couple of newlyweds, traveled to enjoy their honeymoon; after a 2-year-engagement they thought they knew each other well, but they didn’t know that those 10 days would be an exciting adventure of getting new knowledge about their couple. While Pamela spent her free time talking by phone, Benjamin spent it exercising; Pamela used to cry watching romantic movies; in contrast, Benjamin used to make a lot of questions about the characters, acting, so on. In fact, men and women are totally differents not only physical but also psychologically. In addition, the differences between men and women have their origin in their brain’s structure (Hensley, 2009). As a result, how they process information, express their feelings and even their brain size depend of their brain’s structure.
First, women process information well in both hemispheres, while men tend to process information better in the left hemisphere. For instance, women solve problems more creatively and they are more aware of feelings; whereas men are more rationalist because they always need facts, laws to solve their problems. For exmaple, the popular christmas game "The secret friend" is a good way to see that women are more creative than men, while women spend time making a good gift, wrapping it with a nice paper and writing an special letter, men tend to give other person the responsability to prepare the gift. That is why women are called “emotionalist”, while men are called “rationalist”.(Conner, 2007)
Second, the size of men’s brain is bigger than women’s brain, that is because men have more neurons than women, men have 11 – 12% more neurons than women, due to they need to control a bigger body mass than women. Although men have more neurons than women, it doesn’t mean they are more intelligent than women. While women use the majority of their neurons for creative issues, men use th emojority of their neuron for physical activities.
Finally, women have a larger limbic system than men; it allows them to be more in touch with their feelings. For instance women tend to show their love, hate, anger, etc easily; on the other hand, men are quieter showing their feelings. According to Swaminathan “Women bond better with others because they can communicate their feelings as they want; whereas men need more time to decide how they will show their feelings.”
In conclusion, there are many differences between men and women because women use their two hemispheres, but men use mainly the left hemisphere; the size of men’s and women’s brain is different and their limbic system works in different ways. Even though men and women’s brains are different, it makes they complement each other.
